HCV Portability
IMPORTANT HCV PORTABILITY FUNDING NOTICE
AHA is currently experiencing funding constraints that may affect portability requests.
Families considering moving outside the Abilene Housing Authority's jurisdiction must contact AHA's HCV Department before making plans to move.
For each portability request, AHA will contact the receiving PHA to determine whether the receiving PHA will:
- Absorb the family into its HCV program; or
- Administer the family's voucher and bill AHA for the family's housing assistance payments.
When the receiving PHA is billing, AHA will evaluate the anticipated HAP cost of the move. If the move would require AHA to pay a higher subsidy than it is currently paying for the family, and the receiving PHA will not absorb the family, AHA may deny the portability request, when permitted by HUD regulations, due to insufficient funding.
Families are required to provide at least 30 days' written notice of their intent to move to allow sufficient time for AHA and the Receiving PHA to complete the required portability process.
Need to Request Portability?
Submit your written request today. Email hcvinfo@abileneha.org or submit your request through your AssistanceConnect account at www.assistancecheck.com.
Please do not make moving arrangements until you receive written instructions from AHA.
All portability determinations are made on a case-by-case basis and are subject to HUD regulations, AHA's Administrative Plan, and AHA's available funding.
