TEXAS SMOKE ALARM REQUIREMENTS
 
Effective September 1, 2011, new regulations went into effect in Texas for smoke alarm number/placement.  All existing rental property must be brought up to code by 1/1/2013. 
 
- A smoke alarm is required in EVERY bedroom (sleeping area). 
 
- If multiple bedrooms are served by the same hallway, there must be a smoke alarm in the   hallway too. 
 
- If the unit has multiple levels, there must be a smoke detector on each level. 
 
- Any smoke alarm more than 10 years old MUST be REPLACED.
 
AHA will continue to remind you of these new requirements until December 31, 2012.  Beginning January 1, 2013, AHA will begin failing units that do not meet these requirements.

Be present when our applicants receive their Housing Choice Voucher.  It is a great opportunity to market your available units and special offers.

Voucher Briefing Schedule: 
Participants will leave the briefing with a voucher in hand enabling them to seek an available unit.
